This exceptional piece of furniture was in need of sympathetic restoration. The side moulding on the left side of the top was missing as was the moulding on the base right hand side. There was numerous sections of the geometric moulding missing. Some of the moulding was original and others later replacements. Several copy mouldings were made to match up with the relevant period of repair. The inlay was missing in both the marquetry and stringing. The drawer runners and sides of the drawers were all restored in oak. The top was split in three places with gaps between each section.

To restore the top each section was lifted, planed and refitted with a new fillet at the back to compemnsate for the shrinkage. various other repairs were made to the ebonised moulding squares and walnut veneer front. The surfaces finish was polished and  then waxed.
