I was contacted about a card table with some water damage. When it arrived I found it had been badly restored before and was in a terrible condition.  Most of the satinwood veneer had been sanded away with odd repairs having been made.  The rosewood crossbanding had been sanded until it had turned black.  The baize was in fact a cheap velvet and a lot of the stringing was missing. It was decided that the satinwood and rosewood would have to replaced.  The central marquetry motif was also so badly damaged that it was also replaced. The velvet was also removed and replaced with baize.
