1920 LINES BROTHERS ROCKING HORSE

The rocking horse was in very poor condition.  Much of the 'gesso' on the outside had chipped off and the wooden frame was badly stained.

This image shows the horse after several coats of gesso had been applied.

Gesso is a coating that is made from a powdered form of mineral calcium carbonate together with rabbit-sking glue and dries to make a very hard surface similair to plaster.  It can be sanded to produce a very fine and smooth surface.  'Gesso' is an Italian word for chalk.

This shows the finished horse.  The detail was painted on from images of other rocking hoses of the period and replacment tack, mane and tail were fitted.
